The heat shield is decorated with hundreds of domino-sized varieties of soapstone tile from the US, Brazil and Finland. The hearth tiles are Finnish soapstone tiles in a brick bond pattern. This heater’s chimney is hidden in a non- combustible stucco chase. Four 500-watt electric elements inside this heater give additional heating flexibility.

In this installation, the powder-coated chimney exits a (hidden) modular behind this 4,300-pound soapstone heater.<br /><br /> The weight is supported by a wooden floor plus post and beam structure in the crawlspace, and the heater placed on a tiled “ foamglas” pedestal to be UL- listing compliant.

A combination bake oven and fireplace with an unheated bench. This was a remodel in front of an old open fireplace which was re-lined with a new chimney, then sealed to create a neutral backdrop for this mid-sized heater.

It has an attached wood-fired cook stove (two burners), unheated and heated benches, and a stuccoed Isokern masonry chimney. All this is surrounded by light gray soapstone hearth tile. The kitchen (not visible) features matching Finnish soapstone counter tops. This house was designed around the fireplace cluster. New construction.

A compact soapstone bake oven and fireplace combination, shown in the bake oven fire mode. Once the correct oven temperature is reached, the embers are pushed through a drop door from the oven into the lower firebox (and eventually, into the ash box below). The oven is now ready to be utilized and will stay hot for many hours.

Features a bake oven and modular side section for the chimney connection. This masonry heater replaced a wood stove below the massive staircase in this rustic home. This corner model has been placed in the center axis of several rooms and rests on a tiled pedestal layer of “foamglas.” A wooden load-bearing post-and-beam structure in the basement level supports the 4,000 pounds of heater and chimney weight above. The new ceramic tile floor with soapstone tile trim replaced a brick hearth.

This inefficient open fireplace was transformed when a large Tulikivi heater was installed: the existing brick and door frame were removed; a new chimney liner installed; a non- combustible heat shield build to hide the old fireplace opening; new footings and masonry support work constructed. This soapstone bake oven is based on rural country heaters from northern Finland. The upper mantle is used to dry kitchen towels, the lower mantle is handy when removing hot baked goods from the large oven chamber. The rock face course adds visual interest and enough room for the smoke channels to top vent this 6,000 pound “appliance.” Bon Appetit!

This TU 2200 SA -- in the speckled Finnish soapstone “Salmon” color -- has been modified with rough-hewn rock face and a smooth keystone center above the door. The rock face motif is repeated below the heater surrounding the wood storage alcove. Both heater and stuccoed Isokern chimney are supported by a bench height masonry pedestal. Soapstone bench slabs, hearth tiles and a soapstone soot plug at the chimney’s base completed this heater installation during an extensive farmhouse remodel.

A basic mid-sized heater has been refined through the addition of two curved mantle shelves. The recessed door hardware is surrounded by rock face accents; a slate tile hearth copies the mantle curve for a pleasing overall design. This heater is equipped with 3KW electric elements and keeps the house cozy warm even if no wood fire has been lit. One of the many optional features available only to Tulikivi soapstone heaters.

A plaster-covered heat shield behind the heater and a powder-coated chimney completed the installation.

This is one of the most compact heaters available from Tulikivi, with an approximate 18" x 24" footprint. An extra 300 mm course in height has been added to the stock 1,800 pound heater to increase its heat storage capacity. The hearth is made from soapstone tile, the heat shield clad in black slate. This heater was installed on a combustible wood floor and required a UL- listed "foamglas" pedestal trimmed with soapstone tile.

This heater was installed on a combustible wood floor and required a UL- listed "foamglas" pedestal trimmed with soapstone tile. A simple plastered heat shield with soapstone accents and a soapstone hearth all add up to a successful remodeling effort.

This installation features a see-through heater with very deep (more than 24 inches) firebox, plus a wood-fired bake oven on the kitchen side. Rough-hewn stones support the generous-sized sitting benches. Even the dog has a favorite spot! The top-vented stainless steel chimney pipe is wrapped in soapstone. See-through heaters separate living spaces, while providing a central sitting area -- creating intermediate and creative spaces. New construction. Total height 84 inches.
